Forget the four seasons; it's only summer and winter that count. During the summer players gather food and build up supplies for winter. in the winter they go out hunting and continue to fill the depots in order to survive this bitter season.
x
Players start in their four summer camps and either move their token two steps or move two tokens one step. A chit can hold only one token. When moving, a player takes the chit that his token just left and places it blind in front of him, except road and cave chits that stay on the board. Weapon and mammoth chits of a player are kept face up. Players can jump from cave to cave, counting as one movement step. Several other special movement rules apply.

Summer ends when no more chit can be taken; the board now gets filled with winter chits. If a player did not place enough storage trunks in his camps, he plays the winter phase with less tokens. This phase ends the same way, after which players count their collected items.
Points are awarded for collected food. Other items such as coat, jars and necklaces increase in points when more of it is collected. Each storage trunk on one of the summer sites gives five points.
